The taxi-hailing mobile app is now available in 15 cities in six sub-Saharan African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Ghana. But Uber’s takeover of the African market has not always been a smooth ride, as the firm has faced regulation and labour disputes, technical challenges, passenger security issues and protests – sometimes violent – in the countries of operation. The company has also faced accusation that the drivers that work for the company are underpaid and their jobs are too insecure. Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) is the National Oil Company of Tanzania through which the Ministry of Energy and Minerals implements its petroleum exploration and development policies. TPDC has a manpower strength of about 400 and is organized into seven directorates and three Units, namely: Directorate of Upstream, Directorate of Downstream, Directorate of Finance, Directorate of Legal Services, Directorate of Cooperate Strategy and Planning, Directorate of Corporate Management, Directorate of Internal Audit, Communication Unit, Procurement Unit and Risk Management Unit. TPDC was established through the Government NoticeNo.140 of 30th May 1969 under the Public Corporations Act No.17 of 1969. The Corporation began operations in 1973. TPDC is a wholly owned Government parastatal, with all its shares held by the Treasurer Registrar.

Africa In Spotlight As TED Global Returns To Tanzania

A decade after it was first held in Arusha, TED Global returns to Africa next week to highlight Africa's rich intellectual, artistic and problem-solving culture.  It will also examine some of the key challenges the continent is facing and bring together some of the great minds finding ways to solve them. The  theme for the four-day event  is "Builders. Truth-Tellers. Catalysts." Along with TED's curator Chris Anderson , the event is also being curated by renowned Nigerian thinker Emeka Okafor , who co-founded Maker Faire Africa in 2008. The conference will also highlight some of the excellent work being done by the TED Fellows, a prestigious bunch of people in the early stages of their careers. East Africa entrepreneurship conference to focus on agribusiness

AGRIBUSINESS As East Africa strives to increase intra-regional trade, the East Africa Business Council (EABC) has said it will put emphasis on agribusiness development during its two day forum in Dar es Salaam Tanzania next month.The council’s chief executive, Lilian Awinja said Agro-processing, including food, beverages and tobacco, together with apparel and leather sectors contribute almost 40 % of the region’s manufactured exports, and should therefore be give attention. She said the region needs to boost the agriculture values chain and the transformation of agro raw materials into sustainable and highly marketable commodities which are competitive at regional and international markets.

Researchers from the U.K.’s University of York found that sophisticated irrigation systems and terraces at Engaruka were built to capture eroded sediments that were used to feed the site’s arid landscape.

Tanzania:Blood-delivering drone company Zipline readies for launch in Tanzania

Zipline, a California-based robotics company that has made a name for itself delivering blood by drone in Rwanda, has just announced plans to operate its services in Tanzania by early next year. In an interview with The Verge , Zipline co-founder and chief executive Keller Rinaudo said that the company plans to work with the Tanzania Ministry of Health and the country’s Medical Stores Department to open four distribution centers in Tanzania over the next four years, with the intent to deliver blood via drone to over a thousand public health facilities in the country. Zipline also wants to expand services in Tanzania to include on-demand delivery of other medical supplies, things such as emergency vaccines, HIV medications, and anti-malaria drugs. Tanzania: 27 Million Mosquito Nets to Be Distributed for Malaria Control

Dar es Salaam — At least 27 million long lasting insecticide treated mosquito nets (LLIN) will be distributed across the country as the government embarks on enhancing malaria control interventions. This was revealed by Mr Charles Mwalimu, the Head of Malaria Vector Control from National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) in the Health Ministry when he spoke to reporters during one day seminar on malaria held in Dar es Salaam on August 23. SUPER TOURISM PROMOTION IN TANZANIA

TANZANIA'S premiere tourist board is poised to enlist the support of three airlines -- Ethiopian Airlines, Air Tanzania and Coastal Aviation - in a new partnership to promote tourism via an indoor venture known as Swahili International Tourism Expo, or SITE for short. An agreement to that effect was signed in Dar es Salaam yesterday between TTB and the airlines, paving way for staging a three-day tourism expo in Dar es Salaam starting October 13, 2017. Code-named SITE 2017, the 'expo' will be staged at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre.
